  Description:

  What happens when infection or other triggers spark sudden emotional and cognitive turmoil in a child?  This multidisciplinary session will dive into the emerging science of Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS)- where the immune system and mind collide.  Learn how infections and autoimmune responses can trigger psychiatric flares, what happens in the body post infection, best practices for clinicians treating, and gain insight on intervention from an OT perspective.  Parents will hear from clinicians and providers with lived experience and gain perspective on how to coordinate and create a medical care team that truly helps families navigate recovery. Walk away equipped with the latest research, real-world strategies, and renewed confidence in how to recognize and respond to PANS/PANDAS in your home and practice.
