OPA, Dr. Jason Beaman and the Oklahoma Disability Services (ODS) is sponsoring a training opportunity for those interested in doing the Competency Evaluations for the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse.

There will be training locations in both Tulsa and Norman connected virtually.

Training Locations:

The Annex, 1132 McGee Drive, Norman, OK 73069

OSU Center For Health Sciences, 1111 W 17th St, Tulsa Oklahoma, 74107

Virtual attendance is allowed.  Contact Danna Fowble for that link.

The majority of the training will be conducted by:

Jason Beaman, D.O., M.S., M.P.H., FAPA

Associate Clinical Professor

Chair, School of Forensic Sciences

Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences

He is the psychiatrist with ODMHSAS that is leading the initiative to complete the 270+ evaluations before the deadline given by the federal monitors.

He will be covering: (But not limited to:)

  • The situation the State of Oklahoma is now facing regarding Competency Evaluations
  • The specific nature of the Competency Evaluations being conducted
  • The logistics of contracting, scheduling, and reporting results
  • And answering and questions participants may continue to have following his presentation.

This training was initially scheduled to train psychologists contracting with ODS, but we decided to work with OPA to make it available to all psychologists interested in participating in this initiative.

Norman Training Costs and Fees and for CE's:

Dr. Beaman is not charging for his time, and we have worked hard to keep the training costs as low as possible. However, opening it up to all psychologists requires us to request a minimal fee to cover costs.

One note: OPA has also agreed to absorb any of their expenses to reduce any fees even further.

Registration Fees for CE's and Norman will be as follows:

1)  No Cost to attend virtually or in Tulsa.  No cost does not include CE's.

2) $50 for OPA Members who want CE's or wish to attend in person in Norman.

3) $100 for non-OPA members who want CE's or wish to attend in person in Norman.

4) $0 for psychologists contracting with ODS.

If you’re unable to attend this Friday, we hope to work with Dr. Beaman to make a recording of this training available.   It will be extremely helpful, but not required, for you to complete this training before you start the evaluations.

Virtual attendance is allowed.  Contact Danna Fowble for that link.

Thank you to everyone who has been willing to step up and help us address this critical situation.
